Grounding in Peace

Yesterday was different. Yesterday, I absorbed peace. I felt what it might be not to worry, even though there is still so much I could. Something inside of me shifted. It felt like the countless hours I’ve poured into self-love, healing, and awareness are beginning to take root, evolving into something new—an evolution of me, and my future writings and photography as Annedy Ray Norell.

Last night, I gave myself the gift of a long meditation. I surrendered to stillness, and I slept better than I have in so long. And then this morning, the world around me reflected that peace back to me: a landscape wrapped in fog and mist, where nothing could be seen unless it was directly in front of me. Driving the back country roads to my full-time job, it was as if nature itself whispered the lesson back to me: this is presence.

The fog didn’t reveal what was far ahead. It didn’t show the past. It simply held me in the now. And in that, I saw beauty. I saw love. I felt grounded.

And yet, life is not without its challenges. There are days I feel pulled under, days I fight against the weight of old wounds, days I am simply doing the best I can to take one small step forward. Sometimes that forward step looks like vitality, like embracing the light and opening fully to possibility. Other times, forward movement is slower, gentler—it looks like doing one thing at a time, giving myself the grace of rest, or taking a single quiet breath that carries me into the next moment.

Through it all, I am learning acceptance, accepting the scars on my spirit as part of my beauty. Accepting that stillness is not weakness but strength. Accepting that my journey does not need to be rushed, because every day I am becoming.

I am on solid ground. I am good. I am beautiful. And my spirit, marked by all that it has endured, is shaping me into something spectacular.

This season of my life isn’t about what I’ve lost—it’s about what I am creating. Through words. Through images. Through the way I experience the quiet miracle of fog on a morning drive.

The picture I chose for this post is another from my journey through different state and national parks in North Dakota. It’s one of my favorites. I didn’t enhance a single color—nature painted it perfectly that day. When I look at this image, I see more than a landscape. I see life itself, with everything intertwined, each part placed so eloquently across the vast canvas of earth and sky. Somehow it resembles my own life: messy and magnificent, simple and infinite, chaotic and yet beautifully aligned.

This is presence. This is beauty. This is becoming. Have a peaceful, calm day, and if it gets noisy, busy, or fast... take five minutes for you. Close your eyes and think of your most beautiful picture, and focus on the stillness.
